I think what happened to ur friends car is just a thing... Ive had two camrys in the past and never faced any trouble with them... These things do happen at times.. I had a similar problem with a brand new Altima about 2yrs ago... The Headlights had an electrical problem n had to be replaced...

Usally These cars are quite dependable.. even upto like 150,000kms..
