the thing is that nearly all sites (Pro and Con) acknowledge the existence of Al-Qaeda as an entity.

Even if we take it that Al-Qaeda is a figment of the CIA's imagination, you will admit that organziations are carrying out terrorist activities whatever they call themselves.
