If I may! I understand and agree with your points. On a personal level hough, I am against "marriage" for gay couples.

I agree though that there needs to be mechanism, like the "civil union" to protect the rights of the partners. Although again, many countries have protection for couples who are co-habiting. As things are going, I am sure that taxation and pension benefitswill also be incorporated soon.
