Ben Qatar, a belated welcome to QL, and I would be very interested to hear your opinion on what I am about to say:

I have been here for almost 5 years now, and I've noticed a marked distinction between different age groups of Qataris (and again, this is generalising which I know is not strictly correct). It seems that those who are in their late twenties to mid thirties have a real grasp of international issues, and are very welcoming to expatriates of all nationalities. They are urbane, sophisticated, friendly, polite, and very interested in how other nationalities view Qatar.

On the other side of the coin, those who are older but don't hold a high position in society, business or government, appear to be sullen, rude and arrogant. The same applies to most Qatari children and teenagers that I have seen - spoiled, rude and arrogant would be the description I would use for most of them. Of course, there are exceptions to this as there are in any group (my own teenage son has some Qatari friends who are polite to the extreme, and others who you just want to give a backhander to), but on the whole this is what I have noticed during my time here.

Is this something that other people have noticed, or is it just my imagination?
