you could help him wihtout talking to his parents.i understand his reaction,he trusted you but the first thing you did was talking to his parents instead talking to himself.
na i would not make it that way.
i would talk to my friend under 4 eyes,face to face and explain how false it was in my eyes.
but i think he already knows that he made a fault.
