Most muslims know very little about their religion QT.

While it is true for many things..

We have a religion which also serves as a judicial system in this world and has decreed punishments.

Most muslims agree this is also the case. And the only difference is argued about the conditions of the crime and the extent of the punishment.

One example is of a thief who steals. The punishment is for his hand to be chopped off.

However, it has many conditions. I.E. the thief does not steal for a need and hunger being one of them. Or that it is done by an ignorant person who was not taught the law. etcr.

Without the hadeeth we would not know these conditions. Which is why it is so important that people do not just follow the Quran but also its companion to help interpret and clarify our Holy Book.
