Because these rules...and yes they are necessary for harmony and happiness of the species....came about LONG before religion....and though religion TRIES to claim them as its own invention....anyone who has access to a history book would know otherwise....and by the way the two are not so intertwined that you cannot have one without the other.....again atheists are moral but not religious.

 

And the prospect of a better FUTURE is hardly a "reward" for us, since we will be dead...its a "reward" for our children....pretty selfless  of us atheistsSmile....whereas heaven is a selfish reward for the souls of the faithful themselves.

 

So upon closer inspection we can see that while the outcome is the same, the motivation of "believers" (to me at least) seems very selfish indeed....but as long as they do not harm others or force their beliefs, then I can live with that.
