if there is one thing i learned in this part of the world, is that "if you dont ask, you dont get". The problem with us filipinos is yes, we are so timid and shy, it is a good strength in some ways, but is also bad weakness. Its prone to taking-advantage efforts and that kind of attitude is kinda contagious as well. No wonder why in the philippines, even if you work like a horse, you still get peanuts.
as long as you have all the right reasons and justifications to ask for an increase, couple that with the right time for asking, I'm pretty sure you've got no reason to hesitate.
best thing is wait for the next appraissal period, maintaining that same level of work you are doing. keep all emails, praise emails, and any proof of your ood work including your outputs in form of documents or whatever proof.
managers back home, are most upper management sighted, image conscious and insanely performance oriented (maximum output from minimum operational cost). Thats politics, and bureaucracy for you mate! (disregarding the economic state of living of their manpower). I believe thinggs are different here. You get paid on what you work for, and vice versa, you work for what you are paid for. Back home, if you dont work like a horse, and go Home at exactly 5:01, people will stare at you and have a not so good impression. Its a diff ball game here.
But... so much to tell, and again those are traits that are good in some ways but bad at most (specially for the health :) ).
Again, its all about the right proof and justification and the right timing, and im pretty sure you'll get what you need. ;)
