If you like maps you can find paper ones and digital ones. Many malls and grocery stores sell maps. Just confirm the date of publications as there seems to be lots of changes. Of course google maps is helpful too, and you can download google maps for your phone at mobile.google.com .
If you have difficulty giving directions. I would tell people that you are new in town and unsure of exactly where to go. I know many times I ask for directions, people that do not know seem to give incorrect directions that lead me to no where.
Often I meet people that work somewhere in the neighborhood and have no idea where something is, even if it is nearby. Funny.
Take some time, walk around, and get lost a few times. Doha can be difficult to navigate based on it's size and curvy roads. Like anything it takes time, and we all went through it. Don't feel bad about getting lost!
