Actually Eco is right! A women can only intermingle with her father, uncles, brothers and grandfathers and men her mother has breast fed 5 times before the age of 2! All other men are not allowed to even be alone with the women in the same house/room let alone outside without her mahram (protector).

However, Eco I don't think that rape or molestation is stopped by the veil.
