Afaque its best to download/purchase music using itunes on your desktop and synchronizing it with iPhone. This way you will be even ensured of a backup and use the purchased music on your music system as well. 

Purchasing movies at present is restricted to the US only. Apple has plans of releasing them internationally by next year.
