Why not use Microsoft Security Essentials, by Microsoft.  .  If you have a valid copy of windows, it is free, excellent virus checker, and lightweight.   Norton will pester you forever once you send them your email.

Use the Malicious software removal tool if you thing you ave a problem. 

Since Microsoft broke most of its OS, it is also there to help fix it... for free...
