QR10,000 guarantee for driving bank-financed cars out of Qatar Thursday, 16 June 2011 04:31 5 Share DOHA: Expatriates who are driving bank-financed cars must pay QR10,000 as guarantee before they are issued a loan clearance certificate by banks or financing firms to be able to travel out of Qatar, a local daily reported. The car owner will have to pay QR10,000 to the bank or financial services firm before it issues a loan clearance certificate which is required to be allowed by the land customs authorities to cross the Abu Samra border. In addition, the owner of the financed car will have to pay QR500 as travel charges. Recently, the Department of Traffic at the Ministry of Interior issued a circular disallowing expatriates to drive private cars out of the country unless they produce loan clearance certificates. It was prompted by the rise in car loan defaults by residents who left the country for good after their job contracts have expired or didn’t want to return for other reasons.
