Rami, I disagree with you. This isn't a story about alcohol but a story about people not taking responsibility for their actions. I've seen completely sober Qataris leer and taunt women and treat them as sexual objects. All alcohol does it remove the inhibitions; the latent sexism is still there. Rapes still happen even with sober men (as other postings in the forums have documented).

 

What is missing is the sense (in this country) that women are people too and have every right to be valued and treated as people in their own right. What is also missing is the sense (in this country) that people of any nationality, race or creed have an equal right to live their lives without abuse and objectification.

 

Those aren't problems that were created by access to alcohol and they aren't going to be cured by removing alcohol. 

 

And iocn, I completely feel for you and the fear and panic that you and your family must have felt throughout the ordeal. May God bless your sister-in-law and your family and give you peace and healing.
