Fast-track bench to hear cheque cases Wednesday, 20 April 2011 01:22
“My estimation is that on average at least a thousand lawsuits regarding bounced cheques are filed every month,” Al Zaman told The Peninsula yesterday.
Legal sources say that most of those who issue cheques that bounce are younger people who set up businesses without much experience and go on issuing post-dated cheques.
According to Al Zaman, there is, though, no section of society which has been spared of this malpractice. But most of the victims are expatriates, he said.
Most banks file criminal cases against defaulters by citing cheques they issued that bounced.
