Saudi gets its own way on a lot of issues because there is a pact between the US and the Kingdom. Saudi guarentees a free flowing oil supply to the US, and in return the US continues to turn a blind eye to Saudi's domestic issues (funding of terrorist activities, the status of women, human right violations, etc).
Iraq is sitting on more oil than Saudi Arabia, and the US is now effectively in control of Iraq's oil (google Iraq Oil Law if you're curious).
Soon, the US will have no need for Saudi oil, and when that happens the Kingdom will have to do whatever the US tells it to, just like every other country in the world where the US has a political/economic interest.
