Yes sir, you cannot simply cancel a cheque after issuing it to someone. If the cheque is reported lost or stolen etc., you have to report it to the police and obtain a report from police then only banks will accept a stop cheque instruction. You can provide a cautionery notice to the bank but if the chq. is presented, they will pay if no police report is handed to the bank.
