Heartless... 'gordo' or fat in spanish is used as a term of affection in Mexico!
In Mexico calling someone gordita is not rude...
My ex used to say that until one day I broke down in masses of tears...he had no idea...i had no idea about cultural implications...

In Mexico people would say... 'ayyy ya engordaste...' o 'son pastillas para bajar de peso?'
- you've put on weight
- are those diet pills

Definately if you call someone fat from where i come from you are begging for a knuckle sandwich but in Mexico it is endearment.
