My cpomments to Gyspys view on Community Guidelines
1. Do not use swearing or strong language in your posts. -This one is pointless because of the filters. Also for the most part we are all adults and we should beable to use any word we want. However I think Qatari should keep the filters because of Q-Tel
BP You forgot "and as adults we should be intelligent enough to argue our points without reverting to personal insults and abuse" thats if one considers oneself an adult and starts to behave as one.
2.Do not create topics or posts that criticise, bully or insult other Qatar Living members, and do not flame (e.g. provoke other Qatar Living member into arguments) or impersonate other people. If you wish to make a complaint against another Qatar Living member, please use the "Report Abuse" form on the Contact page. - Only agree with the if you want to report abuse do so privately through the contact page. As much as I don't like the multitude of topics that are created to bully and insult me (on what is beginning to be a daily basis) those members have every right to think what they want and post what they want about me.
BP As anyone knows who has had to do with violence, especially within the family enviroment, verbal bullying and insulting is a prelude to physical violence, it is the root of alot of violence within our world. Using the excuse that this is a Public Forum does not remove your responsibilty as a decent Human being from showing respect and tolerance. Unfortunately there is an ever growing band of people who beleive that the only responsibilty they have is to say what they think, in what ever langauge they think fits without any consideration to anybody other than there need to tell everybody what they think is right.
3. Do not respond to people who post something insulting or who are "trolling" - instead, just ignore them and they will go away. - Where's the fun in that??? I get into some of my best debates with supposed "trolls" (Where have MRs. and Port Alfred gone anyway ;)
BP The answering of such posts is of course the need to get into a fight and be able to release the frustration and hatred within ones self. After all they are only trolls and you can call them anything you like, I mean they are only stupid trolls not intelligent Human beings
4. Don’t post anything that could be perceived as illegal or offensive (i.e. racist, pornographic, sexist, obscene, profane, vulgar, derogatory, hateful or threatening). - If this was anywhere but Qatar I wouldn't agree with it as people have a right to post what they want, but unfortunatly it's Qatar and we do have Q-Tel to deal with.
BP This Guideline is a rule and Law in most civilized countries, thats of course countries where civilzed people live and behave in a civilzed manner.
5. Stay on topic and do not hijack threads or post off-topic comments. Start a new forum topic or send a private message if you are in doubt. - To hard to enforce, people naturally fall into off topic conversations. Might as well let them have fun.
BP Hijacking is a natural thing in an open forum although one should try to avoid it, at least doing it deliberately
6. Do not bring personal disputes onto the site. If you find that your discussion is becoming too heated or someone is becoming far too passionate about their argument, please take the discussion to private message or email. - I WISH people would do this one, but alas, not for me to tell them to, and lord knows I like to make sure EVERYONE hears my point. :D
BP Just too much of that going on all the time from all sides of the spectrum
7. If you are not interested in a topic or think someone is asking a silly question, just move onto another post instead of insulting or mocking them. - I suppose this one is just sheer politeness HOWEVER technically people could violate this one everytime the respond to one of those guys asking how to get a date. So should we really ban members for making fun of the haberdash boys looking for nookie?? I don't think so!
BP Yes it is POLITENESS
8. It is never acceptable to reveal a members real name or post their picture on Qatar Living unless they have consented. - This is the ONLY one I completely agree with. If you want to "out" yourself go ahead, but nobody has the right to do it for someone else. There's freedom of speech but then there is slander and privacy laws.
BP Agree 100%
9. Do not post chain letters, solicitations or pyramid schemes.- People do this one all the time to warn people about it or to have a laugh. See nothing wrong with posting them.
BP Agree 100%
10. Do not post messages which support or condone any illegal activities, such as drug use, piracy or warez. - Why not? Surely it's our own stupidity if we get busted for posting about drugs on an online forum. Frankly if I were Qatari I would just turn them in.
BP This is of course is again against the law in most countries and is rightly not permitted
11. Do not post anything that could be considered libelous or defamatory. - Way to gray. What constitutes libel and defamation? Technically under the laws of most countries nothing posted about a person on a public web forum can be considered a valid enough source to be libelous or defamatory.
BP Your remark is legally not correct, if a libelous or defamatory remark can be traced 100% to an individual it is admissable in a court of law, whether in a Public domain or not.......certain cases in recent years have unlined this point. Libel is libel, you just need to prove who wrote it.......as simple as that. One cannot hide behind a avatar and false name anymore.
12.Please don’t post any copyright material to Qatar Living - Can't you just site your source?
BP Should site your sourse 100%
13. If you wish to advertise your website or business please you can do so by visiting this page. Do NOT post such adverts to the Forum or Classifieds. - Qatari's just trying to earn advertising dollars here ;) (kidding Qatari).
BP Agree 100% thats why there a advertising section
Finally, think before you post! You are responsible for what you post so before you hit enter, ask yourself if this is something you would say to someone in real life. - Everything I say is something I would say to someone in real life. :) So I guess I can post anything...Oh wait, already do. :D
BP No comment here..........this is just common sense
