Make sure you have accomodation that allows pets. Dogs are not popular amongst many of the population here.
For transportation, you'll need a Canadian government vet cert issued within 2 weeks of travel (certifies all vaccinations including rabies are up to date and the animal is in good health) The Dept. of Agriculture issues them.
You will need to have the dog microchipped, most if not all airlines will not take the dog unless it is microchipped and it cannot be imported into Qatar without one either (I think?). You will also need an import certificate issued by the Qatari Dept of Agriculture.
I used Qatar Pet Relocators to handle the paperwork and clearing thru customs etc on this end and was very happy. They have a website of the same name. There are one or two others who provide the service as well and I haven't heard any complaints.
One personal recommendation - I fly KLM when I fly with my animals. They treat them well, there is a pet hotel at the airport in Amsterdam where they are looked at by a vet, their cage cleaned if needed and they are given a walk, clean water and a snack. KLM ground and air crew are very kind if you have any concerns (you can't visit the dog while on the ground in Amsterdam unfortunately - but the info desk will contact the pet hotel for you so that you can make sure your pet is doing OK).
Hope that helps - Contact one of the pet relocators here for assistance advice - they're well worth the price. If at all possible, travel with your pet - you may get a break on the cost if it is booked as excess baggage (it flies the same way whether as cargo or excess baggage but there is a price difference in my experience.)
