and get a length of chrome towel rail (3/4 inch diameter).
I used that and it's fine if the span is under 1.5m or so. If it's longer then use copper pipe. It's a bit more expensive but quite a lot sturdier.
The shopkeeper will cut to size.
Idoubt you'll find proper wardrobe rails separately.
