The points a user has earned will be visible to all other members of the site. In this way a fellow member can judge how active a particular member is on the forums and the Q & A part of the site.
For example, if a member who has been on the site for over year and has only a total of 5 points, means that he/she is not a frequent contributor, whereas a member with hundreds of points is very active in the community.
