So you consider "defamation" as "freedom of speech" and as a adequate response to unsolicited mail? Wouldn't that mean that you are taking the law in your own hands? If I asked you in a bar whether I could share a table and a few minutes with you, would you raise a hue and cry? Seriously (and maybe I miss something here), it sounded as harmless and simple (though, tasteless) as that!
And why do you consider these mails so offensive? While I would never endorse these mails, I wouldnt make serious value judgements about such people. Serious value judgements can be made on your intentions too (to the tune of vanity, attention seeking, one upmanship) but that would be jumping the gun and in all likelihood incorrect.
