Compound is like a neighborhood/subdivision. A stand-alone villa is by itself. Both will be surounded by walls. With the compound you will have more access to amenities such as gym, playground, pool, security, restaurant, maintenance, etc. Each compound varies. They come big and small. It's easier to meet people when living on a compound as well. If you like more privacy, then maybe go with the stand-alone. A villa in a compound will have some private "garden" area behind each house and then more common areas for everyone.
