I know that you would be disappointed with the fact that it gets worse when it comes to the living costs.
I'm living here since 1981 and a quick review and comparison between Doha 1987 and Doha 2007 will enlighten you a little:
Doha 1987:
1- Getting paid 3000 - 4000 and living like a king.
2- 1000 Q.R you rent a 3 bedrooms flat and 2500 Q.R you rent a villa.
3- Electricity, Telephone and Water bills will not jump over 200 - 300 in summer 100 - 150 in winter.
4- 100 Q.R, you got from any complex the grocery for a month.
5- Cars prices, it was a standard ... you pay 16,000 cash and you go home with the car [saloon], 25,000 for the [station].
6- All roads were empty by 10:00PM in the night, you will not find anyone out there and the traffic was not an issue at all.
Doha 2007:
1- Getting paid 8000 - 12,000 and you can do nothing with that.
2- 2000 for a room in a flat and 6000 for the 2 bedrooms flat [if you were lucky]
3- 500+ is the least that you will got every month so be prepared.
4- 100 Q.r, you got some juice, brad and cheese and 2 kilos of tomatoes, cucumber and milk for 2 or 3 days.
5- 25,000 will be almost enough for the first down payment before you had the car and the rest goes on 3-5 years until you paid the rest.
6- All roads are busy even at 2:00AM, the traffic now is a big challenge. You can't survive without shortcuts [if there is still any].
Just a simple comparison and the rest might come later, hope that helped :)
