Chandra, this case happened to me last month, I was terminated by my company and therefore cannot afford to pay for my flat, I inform my landlord about my case but they refused to return my cheques. i went to Capital Police and as per their advise, I went to the Civilian Court, close to Commercial Bank tower to request for stop payment of my cheques, but the judge refused my application, I met one of the judge and he told me that I cannot do it, so i went back to my landlord and negotiated the option, I end up paying half month rent of the flat and I got back my cheques.
In your case, since you are leaving Qatar and has to cancel your bank account, your landlord cannot do something about your cheques since if they will file the case later, it will take time. Did they took the house key from you and do you have receipt?
