All women who are under their husband's or father's sponsorship require a labor card issued by the Labor Department prior to working. The card is available from the Labor Department for an annual fee of QR500, which has to be paid by electronically, by a credit or debit card or the special cards issued by QNB for government services. The woman needs to take three passport sized pictures of herself and an employment letter from the place she works.

While the validity of this labor card is one year, some companies may insist on its renewal when the residence visa is renewed.

Working without the labor card can attract stiff cash penalties and a ban on working in future for boh, the woman and the employer.
