I do not know the current quality, maintaining cost etc... but I do know a friend who bought a 2004 Explorer at the same time I bought my 2004 Honda MRV/Pilot and we deduced around now that the Honda has fewer long-term repairs although both dealerships have excellent after-sales service!
But then again, Honda is slightly more expensive to start with. It's a matter of (I guess) whether you want to drop by the service center more often just to save a few more bucks... initially...
