I beleive its when u cross the signal AFTER it becomes red that those cameras get into action and all the flashing starts. So if what u said is right and it was yellow when u crossed, u shud be on the safe side!!

I know mistakes happen. But we shud all just stop when the green starts blinking. U will surely hear a lot of them honking at you. But it will reduse ure tension
