this is my third year living in a muslim country (2 years in egypt and now qatar). to me, praying 5 times a day and then treating africans or indians like dogs while looking down on and abusing/harrassing women does not make you a good muslim.
i agree with the quote you posted, but i meet many seemingly religious people who don't even try to follow that message.
going through the rituals without internalising the values is useless. i think God/Allah would look more favourably on an atheist who treats all people with respect.
