Well in an ideal world it would be " I need u because I love u" and not " I love u because I need u", because the latter means that once u stop needing a person u'll stop loving them which shouldn't be the case. Love shouldn't have a reason or logic otherwise it wouldn't be love. When u love a person u don't love them because they make u feel good, or because they love u back but u love them because u just do!!
But that's all in an ideal world, in today's world, some people love for money, or because love makes them feel better about themselves, etc. which isn't true love because once the reason is gone love will go too.
