The whole creation story is a myth. I'm not saying it's not true, but we should try and figure out what the storyteller is trying to tell us. As far as I know, men and women have the same number of ribs. I think what the author of Genesis is saying (as is Paul in Gal 3:28) is that men and women are not separate but are two aspects of the same humanity. Paul says, "there is no longer Jew or Greek, there is no longer slave or free, there is no longer male *and* female; for all of you are on in in Christ Jesus." Two "or"s and an "and".

Of course this has implications for the LGBT issue but I'll leave that thread for others. I just think it's sad when we see gender as a reason to compete rather than cooperate.
