That's the feeling that I'm getting. There are lots of anecdotes about really appalling driving and near misses, but relatively few actual crashes when taking the bad driving in account, and the crashes there are, aren't particularly serious.

Well, I know it's serious, and a pain in the butt, when the police are called and you have to give statements and maybe take your car into the workshop to have a dent or two knocked out, but in the scheme of things, considering how bad the driving is, it's just a relief that more people aren't actually injured.

Yes, it's bad if your car is damaged, but if people are rarely injured then it's not as bad as all the horror stories about poor driving would lead a person to believe, which is a huge relief for a new driver.
