To a certain extent, I agree. Although for lots of people, I think it might not make so much of a difference. But for me, personally, the rental prices over in Doha are ridiculous compared with what I'm paying back home. So I guess I'm lucky that my company are providing accommodation.

And while tax free sounds great, I'm also going to be spending a huge chunk of my income on buying and running a car, which is an essential purchase in Doha, but something I don't need back home.

I think I'd rather buy a new car, because after all the horror stories I've heard about driving and car crashes, I'm not sure if I would trust a second hand car when you won't necessarily know if it's been badly bumped and repaired.

I'm thinking that yes, superficially it might be tax free, but effectively I'm going to be paying a 'transport tax' of around 20 per cent of my income.
