my wife gets harrassed in Cairo too. she takes taxis alone but she always sits in the back, makes sure her wedding ring is visible, and has 2 made up sons which she briefly mentions since our marriage is more respected when we have kids, especially boys.
in Cairo, if someone is bothering you, you make a huge fuss and yell your a$$ off. that will draw a crowd and the offender usually takes off before that happens. there's a lot of scum here too, but there are also some good egyptians who find this behavior towards western women unacceptable, and they'll usually help.
i'm wondering if qatar is worse, or have my wife and i gotten used to this rubbish. having read the above, it sounds like Qatar might be worse.
