I know shocking right? All It would take is to for the authorities to legalize the organization and so many problems could be solved, if not all.

K9 Friends, BSPCA (bahrain) and QAWS are all in the same bureaucratic sinkhole. The Middle East with all it wealth and power cannot even show to the world such a simple extension of basic morality.

Growing up in egypt I would witness farmers beating the donkeys which pulled their carts. As much as it horrified me, I understood one thing. How can you expect an uneducated and illiterate peasant to understand that animal cruelty is crime. But that is what I cannot comprehend here in the middle east. The locals are highly educated and also very wealthy per capita. So why do the authorities continue to allow such barbaric practices to continue unpunished and do nothing to help such a dedicated organisation bring awareness to the public? I am amazed to hear that K9 friends is still having problems. I would have thought that Dubai would be the first to make changes such as these, but obviously I was wrong. The middle east will always remain a third world country (in spite of all the luxury) until it changes it's human rights and animal rights policies.

As expats, none of us can really do much other than bring awareness and assist where we can. It is up to the local citizens of these countries to show that they are forward thinking and make the necessary changes.
