This subject has been gossip in Qatar for years, especially in the last 4 years.

There has been no indication really that Qatar will get rid of this 2 year ban - most things that people hear are just gossip with no real fact behind them.

It would make for such a healthier, employment market if this rule was scrapped. Like In Dubai where you can change jobs with no need for a letter of objection or a 2 year banishment from the country.

If Qatar wishes a truely democratic society then they really need to look into this aspect of expat work here. Surely it counld be seen as a form of slavery?

It is also rather annoying at times when you need to arrange an exit permit to leave the country at anytime if you are sponsored here.

Surely if there is a problem with people leaving and doing a 'runner' with debts behind them etc there are international organisations to assist countries in finding people - or maybe the banks here should not be throwing money at you in the form of credit cards and loans.

Would be interested to hear what others think on this subject too.
