Oh I forgot about that tent souq that was set up next to the mall a couple of years ago. There was an arab guy that followed me around the whole time I was there and I didn't notice it at first but he kept grabbing me. It was really crowded so I thought it was just people being pushed up against each other. I soon realized that it was this one guy. So, I called my husband to come up there. When the guy saw my husband walking towards me outside of the tent, he ran away. I know my husband wanted to kill him. Well, there were police there and I still felt the need to call my husband instead. At the time, I didn't have the confidence to go to the police. Also, there have been times when we have gone to them and they did nothing.
So, while I agree with the other posters that going to the Souq by yourself at night should be avoided, its not the only time it happens. The incident that happened to me at the Center was early evening, the incident in Bahrain was during daylight(with my dad sitting there!!) and the tent thing was during the day. So, I guess we all have to be careful everywhere we go.
Qatar is not the only place in the world that this happens. Look at the things that happen in the States! However, I guess it's more surprising here because of the strong religious beliefs, etc. Also, most Muslim women here are covered, other women that do not cover up are subjected to the groping. So, from what I've seen, it's the expat community that deals with it for the most part.
