If a preist burning himself is a sign of mental illness then what of blowing yourself up with a bomb?

Or killing hundreds because they are of a differnet religious sect? Throughout the middle east each day there are individuals (dare i tie this to a certain religion) blowing themselves and others up in the name of a certain prophet. Is this not a sign of institutionalized mental illness? A mental illness condoned by clerics and governments?
