Okay, I have reread your original post. You asked whether Pope John Paul II was a Jew. At least that was the title of the thread and you asked if that was true. That is what I thought was idiotic as by definition you cannot be Pope and a believer of the Jewish faith.

As to the second question you asked " Does it really matter if his mother was a Jew..? I can see what you are getting at.

I guess if there was any truth in that vile diatribe and that the Pope's mother was an ethnic Jew then I can't see that it would matter in anyway at all. My mother could be a Catholic (in fact she is) and I could become a Muslim or a Jew. Equally, if my mother was Jewish and I became a Catholic it would in no way invalidate my Catholicism that my mother was Jewish.
