LOL. I had no idea too, until I packed up and went to Australia couple of years back.

Vegemite is a dark (bitter tasting) spread made from yeast residue. It's the richest natural source for vitamin B. Originally Australian, but now the trademark is owned by Kraft Foods USA (those bloody Americans wanna patent everything as their own ;-)).

I was hooked on to Vegemite for some time too. If you're new to it, try it on toast first. The trick is to use as little as possible.
