I think this is similar to the Goan Sausage with a similar name (Pork meat & fat in pigs intestine dried/matinated in the sun or earthen hut with a wood fire burning - not to cook but to dry).
I just remembered, the thing I used to pick up from PX was with a similar sounding name ( chicheron - don't know if the spelling is right).
