I am British and we have quite a famous and long standing drinking culture. I regularly drink and enjoy it a great deal. I have however never ever hit a woman and nor have I murdered my maid or anyone else for that matter. Let's not get excited about the perils of drink. This religious man in your story was clearly a bit of a nutter anyway.
I am sure noname enjoys a drink responsibly and like he says what he does has no effect on your relationship with god so let him be.
