DUBAI (Yahoo!) - Flowers and perfume are the most popular gift choices for people celebrating Valentine's Day in the Middle East and North Africa this year, a survey by Yahoo! Maktoob Research shows.

Other top items on the shopping list are Valentine’s cards, jewellery, chocolates and watches, but only about one-third of respondents said they would ask their partners to select the gift beforehand, according to the survey.

In common attitudes towards Valentine’s Day, respondents said they saw themselves as romantic but the occasion had become too commercial.

Dining out, going for a romantic drive and watching a movie are the three most favourite activities people have in mind to celebrate the day, according to the survey.

The online survey polled 2,437 people in the Gulf region, Levant and North Africa.
