Al Khor, 50 km to the northeast of Doha, is a secluded city home to vast beaches, various resorts, natural reserves, and cultural attractions. It is one of the major cities in Qatar and a former fishing and pearl diving city. Over the years, Al Khor has been developed in every way to accommodate communities living there with the best facilities improving the quality of life in this part of Qatar.
When we say every facility, we mean it because Al Khor has its own corniche! Along with serene beaches and natural areas, the corniche acts as a green lung of Al Khor, where people visit in the evenings or winter days for fresh air and good views.
The Al Khor Corniche has been upgraded to a new look by the best efforts. It now has family huts, ample parking space, toilets, and long walkways, and bicycling paths around the corniche. At night the area is illuminated by proper lighting and plenty of benches with green areas are around. There are several restaurants nearby that you can enjoy after a stroll along the Corniche. On weekends there are many residents of Al Khor picnicking and the children have the facility of playgrounds and grassy areas to enjoy playing.
There is another place that is worthy of mention is the Souq Waqif in Al Khor very near to the Corniche, also called the Hleteen Market. It is a very simple place similar in architecture to the other Souq Waqif in the country but with small shops for gifts, clothes, and antiques, an ice cream and coffee shop, a pet supply shop, and a small supermarket.
