Soccer Qatar v Australia 6/6/09 Ticket Price
I have heard that it will cost Australian supporters QAR250 to watch the match this Saturday night at Al Saad stadium, whilst locals will get in for free.
Their rational behind this is that when Qatar played Australia, in Australia earlier in the year, 'they' were charged QAR330 to watch the match.....Having had Australian friends that attended that match, I know that all spectators regardless allegiance to a particular team was charged QAR330.....
How can this be fair? Surely FIFA, if they new about this wouldn't allow such practice.
Hey Andcat, maybe we should have walked with you on the night of the Bah vs Aus match! LOL.
Don't get me wrong, the Bahraini are lovely and gorgeous people and pretty much all my friends in Bahrain are Bahrainis!!! It must be the pick of the draw that even though we had their company (to walk back to our cars), we still got scream at a few times. Like you said, there are always the few that give a bad name to the rest... my earlier comment was just a precaution.
I gotta laugh about your queuing incident though... just imagine what would happen if the same happens in MCG or something...
Yep, we are off to SA! Yay!
we got the point we needed, we're going to SA!!!!
I was also at the match in Bahrain.....Reasonable prices there I agree. I do have to disagree with part of what you said.....We were a group of 4 Aussies dressed in all the Aussie kit and after the match we walked out amongst all of the Bahrain supporters and spent over an hour trying to get a taxi....We had thousands of comments from the hundreds of supporters that decided to come and chat and all of them were very kind and congratulatory toward us....No danger sensed what so ever.
Tonight’s game was ok....the usual laughable events occurred like security trying to take my SLR camera from me, telling us that the gate was shutting to all Australian supporters in a few minutes and the two locals who decided to push pass all of the Australian supporters who had lined up calmly to buy some refreshments at half time only to be told by many of us to move to the back of the que......Out came the 'this is our country, we don't have to line up'. Always the rotten few that give a bad name to the rest...
Oh well, it was good fun even if we did have to pay QAR 250 and the locals payed nothing....Australia make it to South Africa.
Huh!?!? My ticket was free :o)
I'll be wearing my maroon shirt and cheering for Qatar tonight.
i will suport qatar yaar
The support will still be there ;-)

I don't think FIFA really cares much so long as they receive their cut, and in this case, the Qatar association probably funded this, to encourage their supporters to turn up and to discourage the Aussies from attending!
I must say though that QR250 is hefty; considering the Bahrain vs Socceroo match in Bahrain last year was only BD7.5 (QR75)! It was a surreal experience considering all 400 of us were placed behind barbwire fence (and covered in Bahraini flags!) at the ar$e end of the stadium! Having said that, I was honours and proud to be an Aussie to be there to witness the win (even though Bahrainis did play better than us for 99% of the match).
Oh, tips for all Aussies who will be attending tomorrow night, particularly those wearing gold... be sure to park your car as close to where you sit as possible, OR bring a jacket to cover up your gold shirt. Luckily we had some Bahraini friends with us (who held no grudge against us on the win) and escorted us back to our cars, or otherwise, we could possibly have ended up in the hospital.... Note also that Bahraini are nice gentle people in general.
