The Doha Golf Club is a lovely course. There is the

Qatar Golf Academy, which is QR2500 per year. You can participate in state-of-the-art golf clinics and exciting tournaments, achieve an official handicap as well as benefit from QGA discounts and much more. Tel : 496 0777 or www.dohagolfclub.com. Enjoy.

Boy are you in the wrong neck of the woods to be attempting to play golf.

Take my advice. Forget it. There is a 120 person waiting list just to join the club. It is overpriced, but they have a monopoly and are taking advantage of it. Take up a cheaper sport like tennis. Golf takes a lot of time practicing and playing to be decent. Not too many people want to play with a horrible golfer who slows down their tempo. Hate to say it and i know it aint politically correct but that is the way it is. Save your time and lots of money and take up the sport in another country.

Like you, I've never played golf before coming to Doha. Call the Academy at the golf club and arrange for a trainer . I paid QAR2400 for 5 lessons. You can stretch these lessons over any period of time. You can then group up with friends or people from the club if you like and play the academy 9 hole course for QAR 160.

Depends how serious you are. If you never played before then just hire the clubs of buy some second hand clubs. As mentioned above go down to the driving range hit a few balls. Take a few lessons and that will get you on the way. Please make sure you can commit time to Golf otherwise it will not be fun..Happy Golfing.
