Pakistan vs Holland, hockey, in Doha

Paandu
By Paandu

Not bad... a hockey game between Pakistan and Holland first teams... great! I've booked my place there. So should every other hockey lovers too!

Here's a press release from the organisers.

Qatar Hockey Federation are proud to announce an international test series between European power house Holland and Asian giants Pakistan on Wednesday and Thursday 20 and 21 January 2010.

The matches in preparation for the world cup are being touted as a continental challenge between 3 times world cup winners, and 8 times champions trophy winners Holland and 4 times world cup winners and 3 times champion trophy winners Pakistan.

The teams are in full strength with Pakistan boasting of star forward Rehan Butt, Goal keeper Salman Akbar, defender and captain Zeeshan Ashraf and the legendary Sohail abbas. Holland are led by Jeroen Delmee and coached by respected coach Michel. While Holland are renowned for their technical skills, strategy and physical fitness Pakistan boasts of the best talent in the world. Pakistan team arrives on 17th while the Dutch team will arrive on the 18th.

QHF have entrusted the marketing and entertainment of the event to Choice Event and Sports Management company and the occasion could witness bollywood anchors and entertainers with ethnic stalls and eateries so that not only the hockey loving community but the whole of Qatar will be treated to two days of high quality hockey and entertainment.

Entry will be free to the public and the event will start each day at 4 pm at the Hockey hockey complex. The matches are expected to be covered by local and international media.

QHF with the support of QOC are looking forward to a busy season with the national league starting in February with two divisions followed by junior tournaments and social events. International events include the visit of the England Men's national team in February, a invitational Gulf cup in November and the much awaited hockey Festival in April.

Discussions have also been initiated for an India - Pakistan test series after the world cup which could change the fortunes of Hockey in Qatar. Work on a state of the art stadium is expected to commence later this year

The federation will soon have an independent office and a well experienced coach and technical officer is expected to join the Federation this month. The academy is growing and the number of children and players on the grounds are increasing.

Tooba24 you are right that there were 2 matches. But the final score was occured after adding both of the day's goals. Btw, that was our under 19 team. This time our national team is coming. Just cant wait to meet world record holder Sohail Abbas and player of the Asia Rehan Butt.

O yes, i was there. Infact i lost my voice for two days after shouting and supporting our boys like hell.
