Al Jazeera Sport to broadcast World Cup in 3D

By Spider Sense

Al Jazeera Sport will broadcast the World Cup in South Africa in 3D from June 11 to July 11 in conjunction with FIFA.The sports network is in the process of building two 3G (3Gbps) studios that are designed to facilitate better transmission of HD 1080p and 3D signals.

Subscribers will have to pay an extra charge on their existing subscriptions to view the channels in 3D, according to Khalifi Bin Nasser Al Ghanim, director general of Al Jazeera Sport.

The 2010 World Cup will also be broadcast by Al Jazeera Sport in HD via satellite.

Al Jazeera Sport has been one of the most profitable divisions of Al Jazeera Network and recently made several technical and business investments.

The Sports network recently purchased the rights to several premium sports broadcasts from ART. It is also in the process of building a brand new studio facility in addition to a 3G facility.

The first of the 3G studios is scheduled to be completed by mid February while the second is scheduled for completion at the end of March.

Dear Sir,

I prepare myself to get your 3D broadcasting for the world cup so I purchased the Samsung LED 3D 55'and I subscribe in your services for jazeera sport 9- 10 and 3d your sub dealer has installed the required receiver and for whom we paid our fees subscription for one year and all other cost and charges that we have to pay and we test on the 10 of June the 3D channel and we get a clear net picture so my 11 years old son was very happy by experiencing this new technology at home, buying extra 3S Samsung eyeglasses as he intents to invite 2 friends to enjoy watching the 1st match between RSA and the Mexico in 3D mode but unfortunately we were unable to get your 9 ,10 and 3D channels we called the Jazeera representative in Lebanon Mr. Mohammad who refers us to the sub dealer who was in charge of the successful test in the previous day (Mr. Rami Khalil -Kesserwan Area)who at his turn was unable to do nothing !? and we passed the whole afternoon and evening calling and claiming for both Mr. Mohammad and Mr. Ramy but in vain and thus my son as well as his 2 friends could not watch the 2 matches neither on 3D nor on the other 2 channels 9and 10 , in front of this embarrassing situation and unhappy -for sure- I found myself compelled to raise this claim to higher authority in your honorable institution looking forward to get your support for better follow up and to find quick solution for my problem , I hope to hear from you and to solve my problem before the matches of June 12.. Regards

Just out of curiosity? Are anybodies channels 9 & 10 actually working? I just bought a card and all I have is 1-8 and then two 'test channels' that are blank? Is this normal? WC is only an hour away. :-(

Excellent to see that its Al Jazeera that's doing this. They deserve getting the rights to the 3D broadcasting of the Fifa World Cup. I'm going to enjoy using the best world cup betting odds for team's and then watching my matches unfold in 3D!

With special 3-D glasses you can watch 3-D TV, since a few decades ago, without the need of any special TV set.

Now if we are talking about normal transmission transformed into 3D emissions, that's a different story.

Watching a football match on the current 3d technology available will give you literally, an enormous head ache (even without any booze)!

It had to be Aljazeera to overreact excitedly like a child does with new toys ;)

it will be great if we can watch it on 3D

Surely nothing beats watching dodgy pixelated streams on the internet for free?:)

For watching 3D you would need a display capable of 3D technology and the latest HDMI 1.4 port.

Forget 3D and 1080p, I would be jumping with joy if i could just get this relayed in 720p resolution on my TV.

What they need is a fair free government education for everyone and treat their citizen with respect and not some civil war, not genocide or just simply corrupt governments and prostitution. Forget those tribalistic culture that hinders their prosperity and eliminate religion!

Yes, an "african" team will win ! hate it or love it, africans are capable of doing anything if they were treated fairly.

But the question is when the 3D TV will be available in the market? Will it be affordable?
