The UAE will celebrate Eid Al Adha on Friday, October 26, according to Dubai's Grand Mufti, UAE daily The National reported on Tuesday.
Earlier, media reports said Saudi Arabia had announced Eid would fall on October 25, sparking confusion amongst residents.
"What Saudi Arabia has announced is that tomorrow [Wednesday, October 17] will mark the first day of the Hejira month of Dhu Al Hijja, leaving no doubt that Eid Al Adha will fall on Friday, the 10th day of that month," Dr Ahmed Abdulaziz Al Haddad, the Grand Mufti of Dubai and head of the Fatwa Department, was quoted as saying.
"The [Muslim] world awaits Waqfat Arafat day, and the day that follows Arafat is by definition Eid. Now, Arafat day is falling on Thursday Dhu Al Hijja 9 (October 25), meaning that Dhu Al Hijja 10 is Eid (October 26)," he added.
The UAE Ministry of Labour earlier announced that the day of Arafat will be a paid holiday for both private and public sectors. An official announcement of the holidays is expected closer to the date, the report said.
Eid Al Adha is the second Muslim celebration of the year after Eid Al Fitr, which marks the end of Ramadan. It coincides with the annual Hajj pilgrimage where millions of Muslims embark on a journey to Mecca.
It is on Friday, 26th October (confirmed). Holidays normally vary. As per labour law it should be minimum 3 working days. Public Sector is having holidays from 25th October to 3rd November.
